So, you’ve taken the plunge and booked your ticket to Horror Con Scotland – welcome to your nightmare (in the best way possible). Whether you’re a lifelong horror fan or this is your first step into the world of the weird, attending your first horror convention can feel intense. But don’t panic – we’ve got you covered. Here’s your essential guide to surviving (and loving) every bloody moment.
1. Don’t Just Show Up – Show Out (If You Want To)
Costumes are a big part of the fun at Horror Con Scotland – but they’re not mandatory. You’ll see everything from full-blown monsters in prosthetics to laid-back fans in horror tees. Some attendees go all out, others don’t dress up at all – both are totally welcome. This is your experience, and you’re free to enjoy it however you like.
Bonus tip: If you do decide to enter the cosplay contest, check the rules and sign-up info ahead of time so you don’t miss your chance to take the spotlight.
2. Plan Your Day – But Embrace the Chaos
With panels, scare zones, guest signings, immersive experiences, and over-the-top photo ops, it’s a lot to take in. Check the event map and schedule in advance so you don’t miss your must-see moments – but leave room for surprises. You never know when Janet (our in-house demon) might pull you into something unexpected.
3. Book in Advance – It’ll Save You
Thinking about booking a photo with your favourite guest? Want to be killed on camera in a bloody custom shoot? Many of our premium experiences are cheaper when booked in advance – and some won’t be available on the day at all. Booking early means less queuing and less disappointment.
4. Prepare to Queue – It’s Part of the Ritual
You’ll be queuing at some point – for entry, for autographs, for food, for fun. It’s all part of the experience, especially at a busy convention. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and maybe a snack or two. The atmosphere’s electric, and the wait can be part of the fun if you’re ready for it.
5. Respect the Scare – And the People Behind It
Screaming is expected. Being a creep is not. Our scare actors, performers, guests, and team work hard to bring the event to life – but they’re also people, not props. Respect boundaries, follow the rules, and don’t be that person. Anyone who crosses the line will be shown the exit – no refunds, no second chances.
6. Support the Indie Horrors
The trader hall – known as The Trophy Room – is packed with indie artists, creators, and small horror businesses. Whether you’re buying something or just browsing, taking the time to support the creative side of horror helps keep the community thriving.
7. Expect the Unexpected
Some of the best bits won’t be on the schedule. Maybe you’ll find yourself in a twisted game show, stalked by a killer in a scare zone, or chatting with a special guest in the corridor. Horror Con Scotland is packed with surprises – lean into the chaos and enjoy every haunting second.
🖤 Whether you leave with merch, a gory photo, or a haunting memory – one thing’s for sure: you’ll be back.
