Statement regarding Lawrie Brewster’s Actions

(on behalf of British Horror Studio - Hex Studios, Amicus Productions & Fife Creative Studios.)

This post has been created due to the actions of Lawrie Brewster, who on 7 March 2025, started a disinformation campaign about Horror Con Scotland, on behalf of British Horror Studio ( Hex Studios, Amicus Productions and Fife Creative Studios).

We are therefore obligated to defend our event and business reputation, by publishing evidence and showing, without a doubt, that Lawrie Brewster’s intentions were purely malicious. The following is a statement by statement breakdown of his posts targeting Horror Con Scotland. Screenshots of his posts can be found at the bottom of this article.

Post 1, Damaging Statements

The following is a dissection of the unprovoked attack on Horror Con Scotland, made by Lawrie Brewster on 7 March 2025, on behalf of British Horror Studio ( Hex Studios, Amicus Productions and Fife Creative Studios).

Statement 1:

“I have had a few enquiries about why our studio is not involved with Horror Con Scotland in Glasgow, especially since we are the largest independent horror studio in the UK. The reason is simple: we do not wish to associate with the way it is run”

  • Lawrie Brewster was invited to Horror Con Scotland in 2023 and originally agreed to attend. He ignored essential attendance messages, resulting in his exclusion from promotions. He only chose to contact Horror Con Scotland once he realised neither he, or his studio, were mentioned in our press release. After amending the release to promote his work, he withdrew from attending Horror Con Scotland 2023.

  • For Horror Con Scotland 2024, Lawrie Brewster showed no interest in attending.

  • For Horror Con Scotland 2025, Lawrie Brester asked us if we wanted his “sweet ass” to appear.

  • We initially told him there would be a conflict of interest, in an attempt to be polite and not tell him that MULTIPLE people would not attend Horror Con Scotland 2025 if he was there.

  • The reason Lawrie Brewster and his studio are not at Horror Con Scotland 2025 is simple: we do not wish to associate with him or his studio.

Statement 2:

“Last year, concerns were raised about the treatment of volunteers. This led to the collapse of the Women in Horror panel after allegations of exploitation were made. My colleagues also felt they were treated poorly at the event.”

  • The Women in Horror panel went ahead, albeit without 2 of the scheduled panellists, who dropped out last minute.

  • No volunteers were involved. We had a paid MC and 3 panellists scheduled for the panel.

  • We are still waiting for details of which colleagues he is referring to, and what their supposed issues are.

Statement 3:

“This year, I was surprised to hear a rumour being circulated that our studio had been banned from any involvement with their events, supposedly at the request of Hammer. When we reached out, Hammer denied any involvement, and we take them at their word.”

  • Lawrie Brewster should not be surprised by these rumours, as he started them himself.

  • We provided him with clarification as to why we do not want him at Horror Con Scotland 2025 - he does not have a good reputation.

Statement 4:

“In my experience, this event has been surrounded by unnecessary drama and controversy. We prefer to focus on making films rather than engaging with events that generate these kind of issues.”

  • The unnecessary drama has been created by Lawrie Brewster. This post was unprovoked and the nature of it is transparently spiteful.

  • If British Horror Studio prefers to spend time making films, then how does Lawrie Brewster have the time to create this work of fiction, delete comments which defend Horror Con Scotland, send private messages to people supporting Horror Con Scotland, and write comments encouraging people to not buy tickets?

  • We would prefer if Lawrie Brewster and British Horror Studio did focus on making films, rather than generating issues for businesses and individuals.

PLEASE SEE OUR SUPPORTING EVIDENCE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.

In the comments:

·         Lawrie Brewster generated loss of earnings for our company by convincing people, who would have otherwise purchased tickets, to not attend Horror Con Scotland.

·         Lawrie Brewster supported his lies by stating he had seen evidence to support his claims, which is not true – as the statements within his post are lies.

·         Lawrie Brewster actively deleted comments which supported Horror Con Scotland and requested evidence for his claims.

·         Lawrie Brewster then deactivated comments, in an attempt to create a false impression that ‘this event has been surrounded by unnecessary drama’.

Post 2, Hypocritical Statements

On 23 March 2025, Lawrie Brewster took down his initial statement about Horror Con Scotland, and published a follow-up post on Facebook. The following is a dissection of the follow-up post about Horror Con Scotland, made by Lawrie Brewster on 23 March 2025, on behalf of British Horror Studio (Hex Studios, Amicus Productions and Fife Creative Studios).

Statement 1:

“Recently, I chose to remove a post in which I shared some concerns about participating in a particular event. I took it down in the spirit of de-escalation. Conflict is the last thing any of us need, and I hope we can all move on from here.”

  • He did remove the post he used to attack Horror Con Scotland. However, this was after:

    • We published our response and evidence of his lies.

    • Lawrie Brewster used intimidation tactics to try and make us take down our content about his actions - including legal threats and and reports to the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office)

    • Lawrie Brewster reported our posts to Facebook on three separate occasions, resulting in the posts being taken down and reinstated each time.

    • Lawrie Brewster’s actions encouraged people to not to buy tickets to our event, resulting in loss of earnings.

  • ‘Shared concerns about participating’ is continuing the lie. Lawrie Brewster and British Horror Studio were not invited to Horror Con Scotland 2025, we never wanted them at our event.

  • ‘De-escalation’... for a disinformation campaign he started out of spite, which has damaged our business, and will have ongoing reputational consequences for us? This is far from a retraction or apology, in fact he doubles down on his lies.

  • ‘Conflict is the last thing any of us need’ - We assume Lawrie Brewster’s intent here is to confirm that he should be able to attack other businesses without repercussions.

Statement 2:

Choosing not to attend an event doesn't mean we wish it anything but success. I genuinely appreciate the hard work that goes into organising these things and hope it goes well for everyone involved.”

  • Lawrie Brewster and British Horror Studio were not invited. Lawrie Brewster asked to attend, and we said no. They did not have a choice in the matter.

  • British Horror Studio wishes us success? Then why launch an unprovoked disinformation campaign, encourage people not to attend, and then reinforce their lies with a follow-up statement?

Statement 3:

“I want to focus on what truly matters: making great films, supporting emerging talent, and building a creative community rooted in kindness and respect. That feels especially important when personal attacks begin to overshadow the work. These things can take a toll on everyone's mental health and should never be justified.”

  • The first sentence alone has a lot to unpick:

    • British Horror Studio should have maintained its focus on making ‘great films’, rather than launching an unprovoked attack on our event. British Horror Studio started this…

    • ‘... supporting emerging talent…’ - while we do hope that is his intent, we are working to collect evidence of other businesses and individuals who may have been victims of Lawrie Brewster’s unprofessional business practices.

    • ‘...a creative community rooted in kindness and respect.’ From Lawrie Brewster’s online activity, this is a hard statement to believe. We are not the only business to have received negative attention from him. See evidence below.

    • No personal attacks have been made by us, Lawrie Brewster posted on Behalf of British Horror Studio, and we are addressing his statements about our event and company.

    • His final sentence is one we do agree with, and thank him for acknowledging the toll his actions have taken on our mental health. Trying to fix the reputation of both our event and business has been stressful. We do not fully know the extent of Lawrie Brewster’s disinformation campaign, but are aware he has been contacting stakeholders directly, and we are working hard on damage control.

Statement 4:

“Thank you to everyone who’s reached out with support and encouragement. We’ve got exciting things ahead, including the biggest announcement we’ve ever made, coming next month.”

  • Thanking people for their ‘support and encouragement’ of British Horror Studio’s disinformation campaign against Horror Con Scotland… How does this or anything within Lawrie Brewster’s post support de-escalation?

  • As for their exciting news, that’s none of our business. Follow their page if you want to know more. We tried to end involvement with Lawrie Brewster and his studios in December 2024, and we would have been happy never giving them a second thought again.

In the comments:

·         Sarah Daly (of Hex Studios & Fife Creative Studios) posted a comment supporting Lawrie Brewster’s continued lies. As Sarah Daly is part of British Horror Studio, this confirms our view that Lawrie Brewster’s partners support the disinformation campaign he started against Horror Con Scotland.

Lawrie Brewster’s views on business ethics

With this statement, Lawrie Brewster proves that he is well aware of the impact businesses can have with their statements. It is important to note that if you review the interactions where this statement was made, Lawrie Brewster was clearly the aggressor (again) and Raven Banner was unfortunately the target of unwarranted harassment.

Why we will not work with British Horror Studio

Lawrie Brewster started this disinformation campaign on behalf of British Horror Studio ( Hex Studios, Amicus Productions and Fife Creative Studios). Our experience with their representatives has not been positive, and we wish to have no involvement with them.
